Dear Concert Series Supporters

For our next concert, we once again collaborate with the SA College of Music to bring you the next project of the newly formed Cape Chamber Music Collective. The concert takes place next Tuesday evening, 5th April at 7.30pm

The Cape Chamber Music Collective is a passion project featuring different musicians for each concert, ranging from established performers to new generation artists.

For this concert we have a quintet of well-known and rising star musicians who all have a connection to the College of Music: Francois du Toit (piano), Farida Bacharova (violin), Bonolo Kgaile (violin), Uliana Alekseev (viola) and David Pinoit (cello) – who will perform works by Shostakovich, Kodály and Dvorák.

The main work by Dvorák is considered one of the finest examples of piano quintets.  The vivid and individual part-writing, mixed with Dvorák’s direct and poignant lyricism, makes this work one of the most beloved pieces of chamber music written. The programme also offers a unique insight into the sounds of the stringed instruments with an arrangement of Shostakovich’s Five Pieces for Two Violins – in this concert arranged for violin and viola – which features some of his compositions for film, ballet, and theatre productions; and a Duo for Violin and Cello by Kodály which is a fusion of classical and folk melodies and rhythm.

We thank Bill van Rensburg for his generous contribution towards this concert. If you might also like to contribute to one of our upcoming concerts, please do contact me for further details.

The concert starts at 7:30pm in the Baxter Concert Hall. The Baxter restaurant and bar will be available before and during interval for refreshments.  Covid rules require that masks must be worn in the hall at all times.

Ticket bookings are open at Webtickets but if you have any difficulties, you are welcome to contact us directly to reserve your chosen seats.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Cape Town Concert Series once more.

Kind regards
Louise Howlett
