Dear Music Lovers
The Cape Town Concert Series prides itself on presenting the finest chamber music and recital artists available in the country and we are excited to announce for our next concert we will be moving to the City Hall for a special recital with pianist Dmitry Shishkin.
Shishkin, silver medalist at the 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition, is internationally critically acclaimed for both his creative and individual approach to music, as well as his brilliant piano skills. His achievement in the prestigious 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition which followed first place in 2018 at the 73rd Geneva International Music Competition where he performed with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, has established him as one of the world’s most sought-after pianists.
His programme for the Concert Series begins with Scarlatti Sonatas K1, K466, K380 and K319, followed by Les Trois Mains and Le Rappel des Oiseaux by Rameau and the first half completes with Bach-Busoni Chaconne in D minor.
After the interval he continues with the Suite Bergamasque and L’isle Joyeuse by Debussy before finishing with Scherzo No.2, Op 31 and Polonaise Op. 53 by Chopin.
The concert takes place on the morning of Saturday 24th June starting at 11am at the Cape Town City Hall. Dmitry is also performing there with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra on the 22nd, and we are grateful for the use of the CPO’s wonderful Steinway grand piano. We also thank Bill van Rensburg for sponsoring the artist’s fee in memory of his partner David Luyt who was a supporter of the Concert Series for many years.
As with the CPO concerts, there is free parking reserved on the Grand Parade for our patrons and refreshments will be on sale in the foyer.
