Dear Music Lovers

The Cape Town Concert Series is building an exciting line-up of artists for 2023. In order to accommodate as many artists as possible, both locally and internationally after the Covid hiatus, we continue to work concert by concert with occasional venue and time changes.

Our next 4 concerts are as follows:

On Saturday 11 February the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra will present a celebration of the music of Purcell. The programme includes a line-up of instrumental repertoire and arias from his most famous stage works, including King Arthur, Dioclesian, Faerie Queene and Dido and Aeneas. The concert, performed on period instruments, will be directed from the harpsichord by the CTBO’s Artistic Director, Erik Dippenaar and features German sopranist-countertenor Philipp Mathmann. The concert will be followed by a short question-and-answer session with the orchestra and soloists.

Due to the International Woman’s Achievement Awards being held at the Baxter in March, we are delighted to be able to present our next recital at Christchurch Constantia. On Saturday 11 March, violinist Rachel-Lee Priday returns to the Concert Series in a recital with pianist Francois du Toit. They will perform Sonatas by Beethoven, Schubert and Poulenc. The programme also includes Bartok’s Six Romanian Folk Dances and the Rhapsody Nr 1 for solo violin by Jessie Montgomery.

On Saturday 22 April, by popular demand, we will feature musicians from the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert of chamber music. A mixed programme of string, wind and brass chamber music offers the audience a chance to connect with the musicians on a more intimate platform. Works include Mendelssohn’s String Octet Op. 20 and the Serenade for Winds Op 44 by Dvorak.

All three concerts take place at 11am.

Finally on Friday 5 May we will hold an evening concert featuring the award winning tenor Levy Sekgapane. Levy will be in Cape Town as part of the revival of Bizet’s Pearl Fishers for Cape Town Opera and will present for the Concert Series a programme spanning Scarlatti to Bellini, Rossini to Tosti. The concert will be in the Baxter Concert Hall at 7pm.

Tickets for all the concerts are now available through Webtickets. As always if you have trouble booking or would like to book directly, – please email info@ctconcerts.co.za.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Cape Town Concert Series soon.

Kind regards
