CAPE TOWN CONCERT SERIES RETURNS TO THE BAXTER

The Cape Town Concert Series is excited to present its first concert for 2021 featuring musicians of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in The Other Side, the first of a series of concerts in which the CPO musicians show another facet of their musical personalities.

The concert will take place at the Baxter Concert Hall on Saturday, April 24, at 11 am.

Says Louise Howlett, manager of the CTCS, “The CPO and CTCS have worked closely together for more than 60 years, sharing artists. What better way for the us to begin resuming live concerts than with the musicians of the CPO, all of whom are dying to perform in front of an audience. Several of the works were included in the CPO’s Symphony Masterpieces in Miniature, in which arrangements of symphonic works were performed in hybrid concerts at Erin Hall.  This is your change to relive those concerts or to experience them for the first time.”

On the programme are the Shostakovich Chamber Symphony (Op 110 b) Timpani with guest leader Farida Bacharova;  the Mozart Serenade for Winds in E flat (Octet) K375, which was nominated for a Fiesta award; Three Duets for Violin and Viola with Samantha Durrant and Maja van Dyk (an arrangement of Wieniawski Études-Caprices Op. 18, No 1; Arthur Feder’s Remembrance on the Bridge and Libertango by Astor Piazzolla), and a Divertimento by Mozart and Battle Suite by Samuel Scheidt, both arranged for brass by the CPO Brass Quintet.

There will be a short ‘in-conversation’ with the musicians  in the hall after the concert where they will be happy to take questions from the audience. There will be no interval in the 70 min concert.

Limited seats available and all Covid protocols will be in place.

Tickets can be bought at Webtickets at R190/R160.
