OUTREACH AND DEVELOPMENT
At the beginning of 2003 the Cape Town Concert Series, funded by a grant from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, launched a developmental project to make live classical music accessible to young disadvantaged music lovers of Cape Town and its environs. Many who attended CTCS concerts this year did so for the first time. Clearly delighted by the experience, they are clamouring for more. Pictured below are some of the music students from the Simon Estes Music High School and Elsies River High who enthusiastically crowded onto the Baxter Concert Hall stage to greet the visiting French cellist Jérôme Pernoo and his pianist partner Jérôme Ducros, while a group of thrilled guitar lovers in another concert went backstage to meet the acclaimed Venezuelan classical guitarist, Aldo Lagrutta.
