Odeion String Quartet

Having first presented the then-newly constituted ODEION STRING QUARTET's debut on 23 August 2008, the Cape Town Concert Series is proud once again to engage this fine group of musicians, in residence at the University of the Free State.

DENISE SUTTON, who studied at the University of Stellenbosch and then abroad in Amsterdam and London, began her career as a principal member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, thereafter freelancing with the English Chamber Orchestra. For twenty-five years she was concertmaster of a number of Gauteng orchestras, including the former New Arts Philharmonic Orchestra Pretoria at the State Theatre, the Transvaal Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa.

SHARON DE KOCK is a Master of Music graduate of the University of Cincinnati. From 2004 to 2006 she was a violin lecturer in Mexico, as well as a lecturer and a first violinist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica. She has performed as soloist with orchestras in Peru, Costa Rica and the United States, and participated as a chamber musician in the Aspen, Grandin and Lucca music festivals.

Former principal violist of the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa, JEANNE-LOUISE MOOLMAN has performed to great acclaim as soloist with all the South African orchestras. A graduate of the University of Pretoria where she studied under Alan Solomon, Jeanne-Louise has won several national competitions such as the Forté and Oude Meester Competitions and, in 1985, the University of Natal 75th Anniversary Prize.

ANMARI VAN DER WESTHUIZEN, a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch, was also awarded the Grosses Konzertdiplom at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Konzertexamendiplom at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, working under Heidi Litschauer and Maria Kliegel respectively. While in Europe she appeared as soloist and as a chamber musician, also appearing at festivals in Austria, Italy and Spain. Anmari has made several acclaimed CD recordings.
