"Her power and temperament remind me of Martha Argerich ..." – NEZAVISIMAYA GAZETA, Moscow
Described in Gramophone magazine as "a profoundly gifted artist" who has "already achieved artistic greatness", KATYA APEKISHEVA has appeared as soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra and Moscow Philharmonic under such conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, David Shallon and Alexander Lazarev. Her CD of solo piano music by Grieg, released in 2008, received critical acclaim, and was selected not only Editor's Choice but also Critic's Choice for the year 2008 in Gramophone magazine. It also garnered the 'Rising Star' award in International Piano Magazine. As a noted chamber musician collaborating with such top ranked artists as Janine Jansen, Maxim Rysanov, and Alexei Ogrintchouk, among others, she is a regular guest at major music festivals. She has also collaborated with the violinist Jack Liebeck on an award-winning CD recording, with another in the pipeline. Born in Moscow into a family of musicians, Katya studied at the Gnessin Music School for exceptionally gifted children where one of her teachers was Anna Kantor, the teacher of Evgeny Kissin. In 1992 she continued her studies at the Rubin Music Academy in Jerusalem under Irina Berkovich and in 1994 went to London to study under Irina Zaritskaya the Royal College of Music. In 1996, in addition to top prizes at the Leeds and Scottish International Piano Competitions and the prestigious Terence Judd Award, she was named the London Philharmonic Orchestra's 'Soloist of the Year'.
