Formed in Hanover, Germany, in 1995, the Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo launched its sensationally successful international concert career by winning all the major piano duo competitions, including the 1995 Bellini Competition in Italy, the 1996 ARD Competition in Munich, the 1996 Tokyo Piano Duo Competition and the 1997 Murray Dranoff Piano Duo Competition in Miami. Bulgarian, of Greek origin, Aglika Genova and Liubin Dimitrov have both been playing the piano since the age of five, and made their orchestra debuts at the age of nine. They initially studied at the Music Academy in Sofia and then in 1993 pursued advanced studies in Hanover. Since establishing themselves as a leading piano duo, Genova & Dimitrov have performed to great acclaim as recitalists and concerto soloists in many of the major concert halls of Europe, the United States, South America and Asia, and are in great demand to participate in the world's renowned festivals such as those at Gstaad and Schleswig-Holstein. The eight CDs showcasing their artistry as duo pianists and duo concerto soloists in a wide-ranging repertoire from the early classics to the moderns have been critically acclaimed in the world's music magazines, one of their two most recent discs ('America for Two') featuring American composers Gershwin, Copland and Bernstein, the other, significant works by Maurice Ravel. A ninth, in which they perform the Mendelssohn Two Piano Concertos with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, will shortly be released. Sharing their duo piano skills with emerging talent, Genova & Dimitrov have given master classes in the United States, South America and in China; and since 2008 have headed a new, specialised piano duo class at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hanover.
